Electricity Bill Late Payment Surcharge & Due Date 2026

Published 18 July 2026

The "payable after due date" figure on your electricity bill is your normal bill plus a late payment surcharge (LPS). For domestic consumers in Pakistan this surcharge is commonly around 10% of the total bill, so paying even a day late costs you extra. This guide explains what the late payment surcharge is, how the due date works, what happens if you miss it, and how to check and pay your bill online before the deadline.

What the two amounts on your bill mean

Every Pakistani electricity bill prints two payable figures:

  • Payable within due date: your actual bill amount. Pay this on or before the due date and you owe nothing extra.
  • Payable after due date: the same bill with a late payment surcharge added on top.

The gap between the two is the penalty for paying late. It is not a separate service or a mistake, it is simply the surcharge the DISCO adds once the due date passes.

How the late payment surcharge is calculated

For domestic consumers the late payment surcharge is generally about 10% of the total bill. Importantly, it is applied to the whole invoice, not just the energy portion. That means the surcharge is calculated on your units, plus fuel price adjustment, taxes and any fixed charges.

Because fixed charges based on sanctioned load now make up a larger share of many bills, the 10% penalty can add up to more than it used to. Surcharge rules and percentages are set by the regulator and can change, so treat the exact figure on your own bill as the authority, or check current rules at NEPRA. If you are unsure how the underlying charges are built up, our guide on unit slabs, fuel price adjustment and taxes breaks each line down.

When is the due date?

The due date is printed clearly on the front of every bill, usually a set number of days after the bill is issued. Bills are issued monthly, so the due date moves each cycle. Never assume last month's date; always read the current bill.

If you have lost the paper bill, you can view the due date online in seconds using your reference number, without waiting for the post.

What happens if you miss the due date

Missing the due date has two consequences:

  1. You pay the higher amount. From the day after the due date, the "payable after due date" figure applies and the late payment surcharge is added.
  2. Repeated non-payment risks disconnection. Under NEPRA rules, failing to pay a single bill on time does not by itself authorise the DISCO to cut your supply. However, if bills remain unpaid across consecutive months, the company can issue a formal disconnection notice before cutting off supply.

The simplest way to avoid both is to pay on time, and to check the bill a few days early so a wrong amount can be disputed before the deadline.

How to check and pay your bill before the deadline

You only need your 14-digit reference number, printed on any past bill.

  1. Open the eBill Pakistan homepage.
  2. Choose your distribution company, for example LESCO or MEPCO.
  3. Enter your 14-digit reference number.
  4. Check the amount payable and the due date, then download or print the bill.

Once you know the amount, you can pay through your bank app, JazzCash, Easypaisa, an ATM or a bank counter. Our guide on how to pay your electricity bill online compares each method with quick steps.

If the amount looks too high, do not just pay the higher figure. Compare your units month to month first, and if it still looks wrong, follow our guide on filing an overbilling complaint or call the national helpline 118.

Roman Urdu: khulasa

Bill par do raqmein hoti hain: "payable within due date" yani asal bill, aur "payable after due date" jis mein late payment surcharge (aam tor par bill ka taqreeban 10%) shamil hota hai. Due date ke baad ada karne par yeh zyada raqam deni parti hai.

Yeh 10% poore bill par lagta hai, yani units, fuel price adjustment, taxes aur fixed charges sab par. Fixed charges barhne ki wajah se ab yeh penalty pehle se zyada ho sakti hai.

Ek bill late hone par foran connection nahi kat-ta, lekin lagataar bill na dene par DISCO disconnection notice de sakta hai. Behtar hai bill kuch din pehle check karein: homepage par jaayein, apni company chunein, 14-digit reference number daalein, amount aur due date dekhein, phir waqt par ada karein.

Check your bill now

Beat the deadline: enter your reference number on the eBill Pakistan homepage or your DISCO page such as IESCO or FESCO to see your amount and due date, then pay before the late payment surcharge is added.

Frequently asked questions

What is the late payment surcharge on an electricity bill?
It is a penalty added when you pay after the due date. For domestic consumers in Pakistan it is generally around 10% of the total bill, and it is the difference between the 'payable within due date' and 'payable after due date' amounts on your bill.
Is the late payment surcharge calculated on the whole bill?
Yes. The surcharge is applied to the total invoice, including units, fuel price adjustment, taxes and fixed charges, not just the energy portion. Because fixed charges have grown, the penalty can be larger than before.
Will my electricity be disconnected if I miss one bill?
Under NEPRA rules, non-payment of a single bill does not by itself authorise disconnection. However, if bills remain unpaid across consecutive months, the DISCO can issue a formal disconnection notice before cutting supply.
