NEPRA has approved an electricity bill relief of about Rs1.99 per unit that appears on bills issued during June, July and August 2026. It is a negative quarterly tariff adjustment (QTA), which means a small credit is knocked off your per-unit rate for three months. According to news reports, the total relief is worth around Rs67 billion and reaches most consumers of every distribution company (DISCO) and K-Electric. The relief is automatic. You do not apply, pay a fee, or sign up for anything. This guide explains what the adjustment is, who receives it, why the drop on your bill may look smaller than Rs1.99, and how to read it on your own statement.
What the Rs1.99 relief actually is
Your electricity tariff is not fixed for the whole year. NEPRA reviews the difference between the fuel and capacity costs it originally allowed and what the power companies actually spent, then settles the gap through periodic adjustments. When the regulator has over-recovered, it returns money to consumers as a negative adjustment.
News reports describe this particular relief as a quarterly tariff adjustment for the January to March 2026 quarter. Rather than refund it in one month, NEPRA has spread it across three billing cycles — June, July and August 2026 — at a uniform rate of roughly Rs1.99 per unit. It applies the same way to consumers across LESCO, IESCO, MEPCO, FESCO, GEPCO, HESCO, PESCO, QESCO, SEPCO, TESCO and K-Electric.
Because it is a per-unit credit, the more units you use, the larger the rupee value of the relief. A household using 300 units sees a bigger cash benefit than one using 100 units — though heavy summer use still means a higher overall bill.
Who qualifies and who does not
Most domestic and commercial consumers receive the adjustment automatically. According to news reports, three groups are excluded:
- Lifeline consumers — the lowest-usage protected category on subsidised rates.
- Consumers billed under the incremental consumption package.
- Prepaid electricity users.
If you fall outside those three groups, the credit should appear on your June, July and August statements without any action from you. If you are unsure which category you are in, it is printed on your bill next to your tariff — you can check your bill status online to see it.
Why your bill may not drop by the full Rs1.99
This is the part that confuses people. A tariff-cut headline does not always mean your bill falls by that amount, because more than one adjustment lands at the same time.
Alongside the Rs1.99 relief, news reports describe a separate fuel cost adjustment (also called FPA or FCA) being added for the same period. When a positive fuel charge is applied in the same month as the negative quarterly relief, the two partly cancel out. Reports suggested the net reduction in June was closer to around 80 paisa per unit once the fuel charge was counted.

How to see the relief on your own bill
You do not have to take any news figure on trust. Your actual adjustment is printed on your bill. Here is how to check it:
- Keep your 14-digit reference number ready. It is printed at the top of any past bill.
- Go to the homepage and enter the reference number, or pick your company such as the LESCO bill check page.
- Open your latest bill and look at the charges breakdown.
- Find the line for quarterly tariff adjustment or QTA — a negative figure here is your relief.
- Check the fuel price adjustment (FPA/FCA) line separately. A positive figure there is added back.
- The net of these two lines is the real month-on-month change from adjustments.
If the adjustment does not appear and you are not in an excluded category, wait for the next billing cycle or raise it with your DISCO. The national complaint helpline is 118.
When the relief ends
This particular adjustment is tied to June, July and August 2026 bills only. After August it drops off, and your rate returns to the standard tariff plus whatever new adjustments NEPRA notifies for the next quarter. Adjustments like this are recalculated every quarter, so the figure changes over time — always read the current line on your own bill rather than assuming last month's number.
