The official place to see your Azad Kashmir electricity bill online is the AJK Electricity Department's web bill, hosted by PITC at bill.pitc.com.pk/ajkbill. You type in the number printed in the "REFERENCE NO" box of your paper bill, copied digit for digit. On the official AJK bill we examined, that number had 18 digits, not the 14 that many other websites tell you to enter.
The rest of this guide covers which website is real, which number to use, how to print a duplicate, how to read the main fields and who to contact if the bill is wrong or the number is missing.
The official AJK bill page
AJK web bills sit on a PITC server, not on a separate AJK domain. The address follows this pattern:
bill.pitc.com.pk/ajkbill/general?refno= followed by your reference number
When the bill opens, the header reads "AZAD JAMMU & KASHMIR ELECTRICITY DEPARTMENT" and the page is marked "Web Generated Bill". If the page you are looking at does not show both, you are probably not on the official bill.
The AJK Electricity Department's own Facebook page (ajked.official) confirms this. It links to "AJK Web Bill" on bill.pitc.com.pk, and one of its posts tells consumers "Get your revised bill at this link". The same Facebook page lists electricity.ajk.gov.pk as the department's website.
| Address | What it is | Official |
|---|---|---|
| bill.pitc.com.pk/ajkbill | The AJK web bill, linked from the department's Facebook page | Yes |
| electricity.ajk.gov.pk | AJK Electricity Department website, with contact details and new connection guidelines | Yes |
| facebook.com/ajked.official | The department's official Facebook page | Yes |
| ajkbill.pk, printebill.com, bill.com.pk/ajk, checkbillonline.com, billwala.pk, bloompakistan.com | Third-party sites that rank for AJK bill searches | No |
Our own AJK bill checker page can also open your bill, but the source of the bill itself is the PITC page above.
Which number to enter
This is where most people go wrong. An AJK bill carries several numbers, and only one of them belongs in the reference number box.
The reference number, not the Consumer ID
On the official PITC bill we examined, three account-related numbers appear in separate fields:
| Field on the bill | Length on the sample bill | Use it in the reference box? |
|---|---|---|
| Reference No | 18 digits | Yes |
| Consumer ID | 10 digits | No |
| Old A/C Number | Varies | No |
The Consumer ID is printed near the top and is easy to mistake for the reference number because it is shorter and more prominent. Do not use it. It is not clear that the PITC page accepts the Consumer ID at all, so the safe choice is always the number in the "REFERENCE NO" box.
Only one official sample was examined, so do not assume every AJK reference number is exactly 18 digits. Copy whatever is printed in that box, every digit, in the same order, without adding or dropping anything. For help finding the box on a paper bill, see where the reference number is on your electricity bill.
Why other sites say 14 digits
Most of the unofficial AJK bill sites tell you to enter a "14-digit" reference number. They do not agree with each other, and in at least one case a site disagrees with itself: checkbillonline.com's form asks in Urdu for an 18-digit number while the text on the same page says 14 digits.
If you followed a 14-digit instruction and the bill would not load, that is the likely reason. Go back to your paper bill and copy the full reference number.
How to check your AJK bill online
- Take a recent paper AJK bill. Find the box labelled "REFERENCE NO" and write the number down exactly as printed. Ignore the Consumer ID and the Old A/C Number.
- Open bill.pitc.com.pk/ajkbill in your browser. This is the "AJK Web Bill" link that the department's official Facebook page points to.
- Enter the reference number in the search box and open the bill. The labels on the search screen may change from time to time, so read them before you type. If there is one box for a reference number, that is where your number goes.
- Check that the page header says "AZAD JAMMU & KASHMIR ELECTRICITY DEPARTMENT" and that the bill is marked "Web Generated Bill".
- To get a duplicate, use your browser's print option. You can print on paper or choose "Save as PDF" to keep a copy on your phone or computer.
If you prefer, you can type the full address directly: bill.pitc.com.pk/ajkbill/general?refno= followed by your reference number, with no spaces.
Reading the main fields
The AJK web bill uses a layout similar to other Pakistani electricity bills. These are the fields you will see:
- Consumer ID: a 10-digit identifier for your connection. Useful when you speak to the office, but not for the online search.
- Tariff: the category your connection is billed under, for example A-1a(01).
- Load: the sanctioned load of your connection.
- Old A/C Number: an older account number kept for reference.
- Reference No: the number you use to look the bill up online.
- Division and Sub Division: the offices responsible for your area. The sub-division is the one to contact first about a problem.
- Feeder Name: the line that supplies your area.
- Meter No: the number on your meter. Check it matches the meter at your property.
- Previous Reading and Present Reading: the meter readings at the start and end of the billing period.
- MF: printed alongside the readings; it should normally stay the same from bill to bill.
- Units: the units you are being charged for this month.
There is also a month-by-month history showing Month, Units, Bill and Payment, and a charges section split into "AJK CHARGES" and "GOVT CHARGES". Some bills carry extra labels, such as "NET METERING CONNECTION" for consumers with solar net metering, or "Life Line Consumer".
For a field-by-field walkthrough of a typical bill, see our annotated sample bill. For AJK unit prices, see Azad Kashmir electricity unit price and tariff explained; rates are not repeated here, and the charges on your own bill are the ones that apply to you.
Checking whether the bill is right
Once the bill is open, a few quick checks will tell you whether something has gone wrong.
- Compare the Present Reading with your meter. Read the meter yourself, ideally close to the billing date. If the present reading on the bill is well ahead of what your meter shows, the bill may have been estimated or misread.
- Check the Previous Reading. It should match the present reading on last month's bill.
- Look at the Units. Do they fit the difference between the two readings and the way your household used power that month?
- Scan the monthly history. A sudden jump in units compared with the same month last year, without a change in how you use electricity, is worth querying.
- Confirm the Meter No. A wrong meter number can mean you are being billed for someone else's consumption.
- Check the Tariff. If the category looks wrong for your connection, ask the sub-division why.
If the department has issued a corrected bill, the official Facebook page has in the past pointed consumers to the same PITC link to collect a revised bill, so reload the bill before paying.
Look-alike sites to avoid
Search for "ajk bill" and you will see many sites that look official but are not. These include ajkbill.pk, printebill.com, bill.com.pk/ajk, checkbillonline.com, billwala.pk and bloompakistan.com. None of them is run by the AJK Electricity Department.
The problems with relying on them:
- They give conflicting instructions about the reference number, which is how many people end up typing 14 digits.
- Some publish their own "helpline" pages, such as ajkbill.pk/helpline.html. Numbers on those pages are not official. Use only the department's contact details listed below.
- A copy of your bill on a third-party site may be out of date or incomplete, so check figures against the PITC page.
The official places are bill.pitc.com.pk/ajkbill for the bill and electricity.ajk.gov.pk for the department. For tips on spotting fake bill and subsidy links more generally, read how to spot fake electricity bill QR codes and subsidy links.
If you have lost the number or the bill is wrong
Start with your AJK Electricity Department sub-division office. Its name is printed on any old bill under "Sub Division". They can give you your reference number and look into a disputed reading.
If the sub-division cannot help, the department's official contact page lists:
- Office: Office of the Chief Engineer, Electricity Department, Airport Road, Ghari Pan, Muzaffarabad
- Phone: +92(582)-2920562
- Email: ce.mzd@electricity.ajk.gov.pk
Use these details rather than any 118 line or SMS code advertised for AJK on unofficial sites. When you complain about a wrong bill, put it in writing and keep a copy. Include your reference number, Consumer ID, meter number, the reading you see on your meter (with a dated photo if possible) and the month in question. Our complaint letter for a wrong bill gives you a ready-made format in English or Urdu.
If you need a new connection rather than a bill, the department's website has a section called "Guide lines Regarding New Connection".
What to do next
- Find a recent paper bill and copy the full number from the "REFERENCE NO" box, not the Consumer ID.
- Open bill.pitc.com.pk/ajkbill, or use our AJK bill checker, and confirm the header reads "AZAD JAMMU & KASHMIR ELECTRICITY DEPARTMENT".
- Save the bill as a PDF so you have a duplicate.
- Compare the present reading with your meter and check the monthly history for a sudden jump.
- If something is wrong or the number is missing, contact your sub-division first, then the Chief Engineer's office on +92(582)-2920562.
